Q: Being the only
male cast member who's over twenty-one, do
you find yourself giving out a lot of advice?
JWS:
[Laughs] No, no, no, no - I avoid that
at all costs. That would be insufferable
- what could be worse than the only male cast
member over twenty-one going around
giving advice, "Let me tell you how it is,
sonny..." No, the truth is that the young
actors are so intelligent and on the
mark that, if anything, we exchange information.
It's a real ensemble cast with kind
of a goofy feel. It's fun.
Q: Do you have a favorite episode from last
season?
JWS:
Definitely the hurricane episode ["Blown Away"]
because obviously that's where the
parents' story all came to a head. We had
some really intense scenes to play.
Mitch finally came out of the dark, was
hit over the head with the hammer of his
wife's infidelity, and actually had
the
opportunity to respond and react with a little
bit of punch' and anger. Expect to
see more of that this season, which I'm very
excited about, because [the infidelity
storyline] did so well with the viewers
that Mitch and Gale Leery are going to have
a little more to do, with more controversy,
this season.
Q: Help us clarify something - what exactly
does Mitch do for a living? What's up with
that aquatic restaurant?
JWS:
That's a question that was often raised,
by me, over the course of last season.
[laughs] I'm looking forward to the
fact that Mitch actually gets a job
this year! I'm not sure I can reveal what,
but it's going to be something that
will tie him into the other stories, and it
should be fun. Hopefully it's the last
we've seen of the aquatic-themed restaurant.
Mitch swept the model of it to the floor
[in "Blown Away"], and
Dawson put it best, "Dad, this idea gets
worse everyday." [laughs] So, Mitch'll
be doing something else.
Q: How is it working with Mary-Margaret Humes?
JWS: Mary-Margaret...if
we could just get her to grow up a little.
[chuckles] I'm not going to mention the
cucumber episode but, you know, she's
pretty wild!
